How To Stop Spending Money

It is very easy to allow yourself to spend too much money. It is very unhealthy for your financial health. The first thing you need to do is remove yourself from any temptation. If you spend too much money, avoid going to malls. Keep a record of the money you spend. Also, try keeping a journal and before you go shopping, write down the reasons you want to and then write down the reasons it is not a good idea. Ask yourself why you want to buy something and ask yourself if you really need it.

Each time you use your credit card, it is like taking out a loan. Would you take out a loan to buy a shirt? No, you probably wouldn’t. Use cash whenever you can. If you have a major problem with spending money, don’t own a credit card at all. Even if you stop using it for a couple months, you will be surprised how much money you are saving without it.

Stay away from anyone that encourages you to spend money. There are always those people who will shop simply because they are bored. Do not go shopping with these people. If you really have a problem and want to change, stay away from any temptation including friends and family who encourage it.

Find constructive things to do with your money instead of blowing it all on shopping or partying.  Don’t try to trick yourself into thinking that the only way you will be happy is if you buy everything you want. Try putting money into savings and retirement. Do something useful with your money and don’t blow it all. You never know when there may be an emergency and you need some extra money.
