Staying within a budget can be hard especially if you love spending money. The first thing you need to do to stay within your budget is to be familiar with it. Try knowing the amounts by heart, or at least remember the general amount. Make a process that will work best for you. For example pick a certain day of the week you will pay bills.
Try to use cash whenever possible. Create a system. For example, if you spend $100 on clothes every month, once that money is gone, do not use any more for clothes. You will have to wait until next month to buy more clothes. When you are just getting started, it is ok to maybe bend some things. Each month, try to adjust it so you are more exact. After a few months, you need to know what your budget is and stick with it.
Find alternative things to do with your time that do not cost money. For example, instead of going to the movies, take a walk in the park. Or if your grocery bill is high, try cutting out things you don’t need such as candy or soda.
Try to keep a receipt for everything. This way, at the end of the month, you can look back and see what you can change. Maybe you spend way more on cosmetics than you originally planned to that month. If you keep your receipts, you will be more aware of where all your money is going and you can adjust your spending for the next month. At the end of the month, after you have looked over all your receipts, throw those ones away and start over. Avoid any temptations. If you are a shopaholic, try to avoid stores. Or if you are a big eater, avoid eating out and prepare meals at home. Every time you go shopping, carry a list with you and stick with it.
